The following are facts regarding the major restoration of 2000

  • With Bishop Boland and Monsignor O'Neill, Conrad Schmitt Studios researched the Cathedral's early decoration and developed the restored decorative scheme based on a composite of the 1873 and 1900 schemes

  • Painstakingly conserved each of the 24 murals by Christopher Murphy, preserving the original artists' work beneath a reversible protective varnish while still allowing the full beauty to be restored.

  • Throughout the extensive body of stained glass windows, replaced detiorated lead came with restoration quality leading; replicated severly damaged quality leading; replicated severely damaged pieces of hand-painted, kiln-fired glass.

  • Restored the Cathedral's previously whitewashed Stations of the Cross as they were originally fabricated, with a skim coat of plaster over the wood and a rich polychromy that brings the Way of the Cross to life.
