Cathedral Trivia
- In the upper level of the Cathedral there are 55 stained glass windows.
- The lower level of the Cathedral has 26 stained glass windows.
- Ceiling lights are changed via a catwalk that is inside the attic.
- Restoration scaffolding consisted of 14 decks tot he roof line and 31 decks to the steeple tops.
- The steeple bell was cast in 1900 in Baltimore, MD and weights 4,730 lbs.
- Just the hardware on the bell weighs 2,300 lbs.
- The bell itself has a diameter of 59 1/2 inches and a height of 49 3/4 feet! It is hung 96 feet from the ground.
- The steeples tower 207 feet in the air, and the crosses on top continue to 214 feet.
- Ceilings in the interior of the cathedral are 66 feet tall, and the exterior roof peaks at 96 feet.
- Running up the center of the interior of the cathedral, the main aisle runs for 114 feet.
- Transept windows showing Christ's Ascension into heaven reach a height of 28 feet.
- The nave windows and the apse windows reach 24 feet.
- The Rose Window spans a diameter of 20 feet.
- Together, the upper and lower floors of the cathedral are over 28,000 square feet.
- The roof of the cathedral is made up of 45,000 slates and 90,000 copper nails.
- You can also find the cathedral is decorated with over 1,000 new pieces of terra cotta and 16 terra cotta gargoyles in the steeples.
