The tabernacle is the place of reservation for the Blessed Sacrament. The Sacrament is reserved to provide Communion fo the sick and shut-in, and for adoration by the faithful. The Altar of Reservation, within which the tabernacle is housed, was erected as a memorial to the bishops and priests of the United States in response to Bishop Becker's plea for funds after the fire of 1898.
