Father Patrick May
Last Saturday morning, June 1st, Bishop Hartmayer ordained a new Priest for the Diocese of Savannah. Patrick May, from Augusta, GA and St. Mary on the Hill Parish, was ordained in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, in a beautiful ceremony. Patrick has been studying for the Priesthood at Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmetsburg, Maryland. His mother and father, sister and brother, and family were here, as well as approximately 50 Priests and 15 Deacons, and many friends. Fr. Patrick May will receive an assignment in the Diocese from Bishop Hartmayer, effective August 1st.
I am delighted to tell you that until Fr. Patrick May receives that assignment, he will be living and helping me here at the Cathedral. Father Patrick will arrive on June 11th and will be with us until August 1st. He will, of course, be celebrating daily and weekend Masses, hearing confessions, and visiting and anointing the sick. I think it will be wonderful for him to begin his Priestly ministry here in the Cathedral Parish. I am certainly looking forward to having him here, and having his help!
I know that you will make him feel welcome at the Cathedral, even if for only six or seven weeks. He is a very friendly, likeable man. He will bring with him much enthusiasm and a desire to serve. I know that you will be happy to get to know him.
