    Altar Servers

Liturgical functions, especially the Mass, are the heart and soul of a parish. For these liturgies to be conducted in the most dignified fashion it is essential to have a core of dedicated servers willing to make a commitment to the altar. It is extremely important for a server to be punctual. If you would like to make a commitment to this important ministry, please contact Deacon Smith at the Cathedral office at 912-233-4709.

    Choir

Our Cathedral Choir welcomes those who wish to participate in singing the prayers, the hymns, and the rich treasury of anthems which support the liturgy of the day. We are a diverse group of people from all backgrounds, high school through adult. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., September through May. We rehearse in the choir loft in the church.  To join the choir or for any further information, please fill out the form found at the choir website, www.sjbmusic.org. Those who join the choir will have a short placement hearing scheduled with Dr. Thornock privately. Contact music@savannahcathedral.org for more information.

    EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

The term “Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion” is used to distinguish them from “Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion” who are priests or deacons. Extraordinary Ministers assist the priest and deacon with the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass and may take Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. They must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and have received the three Sacraments of Initiation. Given the importance of this ministry and its special relationship with the Holy Eucharist, persons may be so designated only by appointment from the diocesan bishop following recommendation by their pastor. If you are interested in this ministry, contact the pastor, Father Schreck at 912-233-4709.

    Lectors

The Lectors’ ministry bears the responsibility of proclaiming God’s word to the people in the service of the faith. The message of salvation is read to the congregation through both the Old Testament and the New Testament at each Mass. Lectors thus acquire a deeper understanding and love of the Scripture themselves and are privileged to share this knowledge with the faithful. Lectors serve at all Masses on the weekend, as well as 12:00 Mass each weekday. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Kevin at kbroderick@mcgriff.com.

    Ushers

The Cathedral Usher Corps is comprised of dedicated men and women who serve the Cathedral by greeting parishioners and visitors alike before each mass, distributing bulletins and other materials at weekend services, helping to seat those standing in the rear of the church, taking up collections and securing the money, monitor communion lines to ensure safety of all, straighten the racks and picking up leftover papers at the end of mass, and answering as many questions as possible about the Cathedral and surrounding area.  Any parish member, male or female, 18 years or older, may be an usher.  Training is required.  Ushers serve on a rotation basis; depending on the Mass team they are assigned. This service is a wonderful way to meet a wide variety of parishioners and visitors, especially if you are new to the parish. ALL are welcomed to join.  If interested, please contact Charlie Ganem (Head Usher) at 912-507-2654 or at charlieganem@gmail.com.
